i've never gotten into REM. i can list probably 10 songs that i really like, but just never really dove into albums, except for Monster and New Adventures – i dig both of those. might give it a try today at work.

you know how Spotify will continue playing similar music after you finish an album or a playlist?
the only problem i have with REM is that i feel like i've reached the point where Spotify is playing random stuff after an album, and i look down and i'm only halfway through the record

I've been listening to Karma Police regularly for 20 years now, and I still get chills at the end of the song. From the first note of the backup singers during the "for a minute there..." section until the feedback grinds to a halt. Goosebumps. Every time.

Fragile is honestly a really good album.
It is. I wasn't aware that the general consensus was that it was pretentious, bloated, and nowhere near the quality of The Downward Spiral. Pitchfork gave it a 2.0 for fuck's sake. I can understand one's desire to trim it down to ~80 mins, but there are some outstanding songs on there, and quite a bit of variety by industrial/rock standards.

Fuck I've been listening to so much old music for nostalgic reasons that now I associate them to the present rather than the past, so the nostalgic rush is ruined. ruined!

I found a Now That's What I Call Music UK mega torrent a little while ago that had all of them from #1 onwards. It was weird hearing some songs that I hadn't heard since they were released right next to other songs that crossed time to be hits even thirty years later.
