The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

The kids I wasn't allowed to play with in elementary school all had Genesis. That's not why I wasn't allowed to play with them, but I think there's an interesting correlation there. Especially reading the type of RMers here who had Genesis. Bunch of drug abusing, nihilistic rogues. All of you.
yeah SNES was definitely the console for wimpy good guys.

Contra and Contra 2 for SNES were fucking awesome. Two player mode was so much fun too. I remember spending one summer just playing the shit out of that with my brother and my neighbor friend. I need to bust that out again.

One of Contra's greatest strengths was the immediate intensity: The music rolls, you're dropped into the jungle, and the enemies start coming right at you. It started at 10, and never let up. I wish that there were more games today that could effectively pull this off.

And the gameplay was simple to master, and still totally challenging. The weapons upgrades and bonuses and stuff were fun and cool. It was just a great arcade style game. One of my favorites ever.

Accurate.
True but MK 2 is a good one.
Yeah, I'd even say it was the best one. MK1 was too flat, and MK3 got too out-there for its own good (Cyrax, combos, etc). MK2 has the perfect mix of cool colors, additional fatalities, but not so complicated that you couldn't just pick it up and start playing.
