I am not prepared to deal with my future teenagers' social media use.
However, it is becoming increasingly important for me to figure that out, as the apparent potential consequences of letting it go unchecked are obviously significant, especially to children.
That being said, I hate adults who hammer on about how awful social media is. Generally speaking, i have found, the ones that do this are the ones that actually have a problem. There are a few people in my social circles who go on a tirade about how everyone is addicted to it and they should put their phones down (not arguing that) etc..etc... and then make some big proclamation about being more present to their lives and leaving facebook for awhile.
Sure as the sun.....they are back posting a few days later.
Social Media sucks. I get it. I think its too much for kids. Information spreads too quickly and its far too overwhelming for their still developing minds.

The video was just some random bullshit excuse to make a thread, but I had some thoughts...
- Is social media really that addictive? Seems like a lot of people are getting bored with it. Turns out, most people are really boring. And it can be an absolutely miserable experience sometimes.
- I don't think people are designed to communicate this way. I think social media has only exposed our flaws, not created them.
- There definitely seems to be a snowball effect with the quality of conversation. The conversation is getting worse every year.
- Twitter's character limit was an interesting experiment, but it turns out it was an absolutely awful idea.
- I think Zuck was the first to realize that social media is mostly about data harvesting. Others thought they were actually providing a service.
- I can't for the life of me understand some of the things they do. Why does Facebook/Instagram insist on a non-chronological feed? How do they gain from forcing people to use their idiotic algorithms? I guess it gives them an excuse to bury links to Youtube or prevents users from advertising things offsite. From what Facebook shows me, it seems that 90% of my friends don't post.
- Not only does it create echo chambers, it seems that its actually designed to do that.
- Its hilarious to watch traditional media gleefully attack them lately. I'm like "yeah social media is bad, but you're still ten times worse".

I think she might be The One.
My girlfriend is like that. She has a FB account but never uses it. And, well, she has a Youtube channel. I guess she's not actually like that. Nevermind.

I would love to, but I can't. She refuses to participate in the hive mind.
