Tonight I met someone who absolutely hates that squeaky fret sound to the point that it'll completely ruin a song for them. I thought this was interesting. I think I am fine with fret squeak except for its use in TLC's song "Unpretty", where it seems unnecessary and ill-fitting.

For anyone on Amazon Music, I've made a pretty boss playlist of the best songs from the 1980s. It's a pity that Amazon doesn't have the rights to the Peter Gabriel discography, but this is otherwise pretty damn perfect:

My wife hates that with a passion, says it makes them sound sloppy.

One of my absolute favorite moments in all of music is when Trent Reznor wails like a dying animal beneath the "baby's got a problem she tried so hard to hide" part in the NIN song "No, You Don't"

Holy shit the score to Phantom Thread is astonishingly gorgeous. Beyond the film itself and even the film's use of the music, this is a complex, lush and evocative collection in its own right. Bach, Chopin, Satie; Baroque, Romanticism, Minimalism -- it's all woven together so beautifully and filtered through Greenwood's own voice. This might be even better than his amazing score for The Master. "House of Woodcock" is going to be in my head for a while.

Its really good. I loved the movie, and the score was a big part of that.

I didn't love the movie but the score is so impressive. It was absolutely my favorite part of the film. That, and the lighting.

Even if you dont liked the movie, you gotta be impressed by the acting too.

My husband is a guitar player and I hate it too. If he's doing it while he's noodling, I shut the door on him. :shudders:

The acting was great, yeah. Though, I think both women were superior to DDL (whom I adore). Also, Harriet Harris steals the couple of scenes she's in. She's just remarkable in the movie. I'm seen her on stage many times but I've never seen her do anything like what she does in PT.

I got an e-mail today that Iron & Wine with full band are coming through town so checked them out a bit on Spotify.

Liked it more than I expected.

Show is at a small theatre, seated, I was surprised at $60 tickets, so thought "why not?". Pleasantly surprised when I can snag 2 aisle seats, 4th row. Nice.

Then I see the date - Sat 2nd June, which is the day after son No. 1 turns 18. Scrapped the purchase as I am pretty sure I won't be available that night.

The trick I hate is where they just double one or two letters. Wavves, Alvvays, etc.

we need to bring back the "-er" names, but without the "e". that was SUCH a cool trend.
