“Can’t Deny Me” is not a great song but it has a GREAT opening line vocal. “And now you want me to breath” is one of Ed’s best opening line delivery in years.

Wondering what other PJ songs should be considered? I’m not thinking so much as to the quality of the writing...just the delivery of the vocals.

I couldn’t agree more. I keep listening to the rest of the song wishing it was as good as those first several seconds.

Last Exit is another that comes to mind.

Immediately for me too:

You know what else you can't deny? Ed doesn't sing from his chest anymore. Imagine if he'd gone deep growl with that line. It's like listening to two different people when compared to his vocals pre RA. Didn't care for the chorus of this song. It's missing something.

Blood has a solid, power opening line delivery.

Corduroy is pretty decent.

And from a quieter perspective, I've always loved the opening line of I Got Shit. Ed's quivering delivery goes perfectly with it.

It's interesting when a song starts with Ed singing from the first second, but that doesn't happen in most of the songs mentioned.

It happens in Hichhiker and Small Town.

Yes, Oceans without a doubt. Porch is early as well, but a bit borderline.
