Y'all gonna listen to me about this shit now or... ?

Says an op-ed piece in Forbes Magazine. It's the argument a fan is making, not something George himself said or even really alluded to.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2 ... 6fcfec59db

I haven't even seen that op-ed, Pete. That's not what I'm talking about.

Yeah but everything i've seen over the last day is citing this piece.

What I'm referencing is from a week ago, though. Not the last day.

When he said volume 1 of Fire and Blood is coming out in 2018 and not Winds of Winter?

F&B will be two volumes. Vol 1 in 2018 and he said that vol 2 is "is hardly begun." Given that we've waited longer for Winds of Winter than we've waited for any other ASoIaF book so far, plus given the way he chooses to write, plus the fact that HBO is developing more GoT entertainment, plus all the other offers he has on the table for new shows, plus all the stuff he's doing as an editor...

Do you really think Winds of Winter is coming any time soon? Do you really think it'll be out before the end of the HBO series next year?

Of course not. There's no chance. There's zero chance that Winds of Winter happens before Vol 2 of F&B. It's time to come to grips with what I've been saying for a while now that once a story is told, a writer has little interesting in telling it again. I'll put the chances of Winds of Winter being published before 2025 at 8%.

Hopefully, he won't be dead by then.

I disagree. As a writer, I think his mindset is firmly, "why should I bother finishing this story if HBO is gonna do it?"

But, by definition, that's speculation. So, I guess you're right. It's still speculation from my point of view.

I still love you, even if you're wrong about this. I still think WoW is coming, and A Dream of Spring will be released almost immediately thereafter. He's waiting until he has it all done. But then again I'm just speculating.

No new ASOIAF book in 2018, confirmed by the man himself.

http://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2018/04/25/fire-blood-on-the-way/

"No, winter is not coming… not in 2018, at least. You’re going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER.

You will, however, be able to return to Westeros this year, as I suggested back over on Live Journal.

Archmaester Gyldayn has at last completed and delivered the first half of his monumental history of the Targaryen kings of Westeros, FIRE & BLOOD, and Bantam Spectra and HarperCollins Voyager will be releasing the hardcover on November 20, I am thrilled to say."

I think I will read it too. Would prefer a novel, but this can also be interesting.
