I’ve never seen the Pumpkins and this announcement has me excited to go see them. Wish it wasn’t arenas though.

I wish they go tour outside the states and come to SA.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind seeing this if:

-They got Auf Der Maur on bass
-They were playing reasonable venues at reasonable prices

But a rando on bass and arenas? No thanks.

Setlist will only consist of 1991 - 2000 material, that's a huge positive deal breaker for me, although I could go even further and if it was only material from Mellon Collie and prior that'd be even better.

I couldn't care less about Darcy not being there, and I already know Bi Corg is a total douchebag who's made nothing but awful music since the late 90's too, so that has no hang ups with me.

Melissa Auf Der Maur actually has a horrible bass tone for SP based on the live stuff I've seen with her on Youtube (that "Fuck You" live cut from the DVD is still awesome though), she sounds like she should be playing nu metal. And this is coming from me, someone who usually loves those thick, clunky metal bass tones, but that doesn't work well for SP if you ask me.

I'll probably go see them in Pittsburgh, though I'm absolutely waiting for the inevitable ticket price drops since there's no way they sell out all these stadiums. Who do they think they are, Slayer on retirement tour?

Seems like Billy agrees (or at least did in 2012):

Quote:
This is kind of a tongue-in-cheek question, but aside from working with David Pajo and, as you said, Mark Tulin, you seem to favor female bass players. Is there something to the feminine yin with regards to the bass?

I don’t know. Women seem to play bass more than they play guitar, in the people I’ve encountered. That said, I do like the way the women that I’ve played music with approach their instrument. They do play differently; the ones that I play with, they play differently than men do.

How so?

They just tend to have a different pocket with it. Men tend to play more aggressively. Maybe it’s just a byproduct of testosterone; I know I play aggressively.

So, does it lend a more soulfulness to your music?

Honestly, this is going to be a bit of a boring answer; I just like the way that it pockets into the music. I play guitar pretty much on top, and so the bass is better laconic. If the bass is too on top, like for example, Melissa Auf der Maur. When she played with us, she played very on top, and it was constantly tripping all over the fucking guitars. It’s hard to get… the Pumpkins’ sound. If you can bottle it, it’s sort of predicated on the idea the guitars are clearly on top and ahead of the drums; the drums sit in the middle, and the bass is a little back, so it has an impact and wide-scope sound. That’s the sound that I like to hear. Maybe it was developed through playing with D’Arcy and the way she played. I got used to that feeling, and so I’ve looked for that feeling ever since. So, if I found a man who could play like that, I would have no problem putting him in there. Mark Tulin played like that.

Strike 'er off the list, bro. MaDM is a photographer/curator who won't work with Billy again. Paz is the best female bassist BC has worked with, but she's currently sitting pretty in Pixies. Nicole was actually a damn fine bassist but she's not a fan of BC either.

I hope he forgets about the strictly female bassist thing (like he did when he brought the Killers bassist on board - great bass player) and just recruits a monster who can keep up with Jimmy.

I don't really care how she looks - I mean it doesn't make what she says any less or more crazy to me, if you know what I mean? When I see how she looks now, it just makes me think that she must have had/still has some serious self-esteem issues. Maybe it has something to do with her upbringing? Anyways I just hope she get's her life straighten out.
