RE: twitter posts (the one dime posted above from Stormy Daniels is typical) and all the ranting videos on youtube

No matter how disappointed I am with TLJ, I would never yell FU at the director, or whatever other stuff he's had slung his way. I'd never post a video yelling at RJ or Lucasfilm or Kathleen Kennedy. It's so weird how people get mean and (scarily) violent with online postings.

Totally agree.

Especially when said director has been so smart and up-front in defending their choices. Rian has been so candid and intelligent about it all. Whether you like the movie or not, it's hard to knock Rian's well considered and articulate explanations for the decisions he made.

It’s so ugly though some of it. YouTube especially. What point is there tweeting him a message like that?

Listening to him on the slash film podcast about the first day of release and all the horrific tweets he was getting and making him doubt himself and the film, was heartbreaking.
He seems to have realised the angry are in the minority but man are they vocal.

As with anything when people don’t like something you’ll always have them being negative louder and longer than those who had a positive experience.

He’s handled it really well considering the awful abuse he’s been getting.

I wonder if he's had second thoughts about doing that stand-alone trilogy

Absolutely not. On that same podcast he talks about it and he’s positively giddy about it. They ask him is he not worried about the next decade of his life being tied to one thing and he’s the opposite and says it’s brilliant and he has loads of ideas.

Huh, interesting. Good for him. I don't listen to interviews or commentaries anymore, so I didn't realize he was that gung-ho. I think being free from the Skywalker saga will make his perception of this new corner of the SW universe more interesting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A New Hope doesn't really get going until the final battle, same with return of the Jedi. The Empire Strikes Back is more consistent but doesn't really have a big space battle. Episodes 4-6 are great, but they're not the superior films they're made out to be.

He is wrong, but more about A New Hope than anything. It’s not the final battle that sets the movie apart.

I am talking about what some people refer to as "this is Star Wars". They'll show a clip of someone talking in a prequel and say "this isn't Star Wars" then show a space battle from A New Hope and say "This is Star Wars". I love the 4-6 trilogy, in fact Jedi is still my favourite film of all time so I'm not meaning to knock them. The point is, people have a sort of complex where they like the older films BECAUSE they are older, rather than for any other reason. If they were made in episode order, they would knock every film other than Phantom Menace.

Yes, there will always be people like that. However, that is certainly not why I have issues with The Last Jedi, or feel that it is poor at times.

I think if we all sat down and wrote what Star Wars is to us, there would probably very very different takes from person to person.
