This collection is outstanding. What a fucking wonderful listen.
God, I love Jack White.
Yeah I'm feeling revitalized re: JW after playing this the past few days. That Jimmy Fallon performance

I also really enjoy Jack as a lyric writer. I forgot how much I enjoy his 'moral rant' style to songwriting themes. Effect and Cause is a hidden gem.

I love everything Jack's put out. The Raconteurs is my favorite of his projects, but I thoroughly enjoy all of it. I've been able to find a few shows out there from all stages of his career. steamengine or SteamEngine.net is a cool blog that has a bunch of Jack/Rac/DW/WS and MMJ.
I also enjoy the Black Keys, but I haven't really jumped into them yet. We have all of their albums, e.p.'s and a couple of shows. livebootlegconcert.blogspot is another cool site that has pretty much EVERYTHING through a Hip Hop and a Metal site. The main page features pretty much any band you may like. They pull the audio from radio shows and webcasts and voila!
And this week, Jack White became the latest artist to flat-out ban the use of mobile phones at live shows. The former White Stripes frontman, who is slated to release a new album in March, said in a statement that his upcoming concerts will be “phone-free.”
“We think you’ll enjoy looking up from your gadgets for a little while and experience music and our shared love of it IN PERSON,” White said.
How will it work? White, 42, said he wants his fans to stow “all phones and other photo or video-capturing gizmos” in a locking pouch called Yondr.
The pouches stay with concertgoers and remain sealed while they are in the sanctioned “phone-free zone,” keeping them from snapping photos, uploading clips to YouTube or texting their pals. (Audience members can unlock the pouch to make an emergency call as long as they step away from that area.)

What a way to keep people away from your shows.
i'm sure it's a way to block people from streaming something on facebook live, or if periscope is still a thing.
i get it for comedians, absolutely. maybe musicians are feeling similar things, i dunno? i've been to a few comedy shows where the comedian requires this. the first time i thought it was going to be a terrible pain in the ass... but if the venue knows how to do it, it's actually really painless.
not gonna lie though, it'd be nice to go to a show without some dickhead in front of me holding up his phone for 50% of every song

Given the age of his audience, I'd expect there's a decent amount of parents of young kids at his shows. I wouldn't feel comfortable with the idea of locking away my phone in case there was some emergency, etc.

I think there's a designated area for that
I guess I'd need to know more about how it worked in practise but that still sounds like a bad idea.
Do you have to go to the foyer to have your pouch unlocked? That sounds really inconvenient for you and everyone around you.
How would a parent know if their partner or babysitter's texted them, how would you feel the vibration of the phone or notice the text message?
Do you have to just walk out to have it unlocked five times throughout the show, just in case?
It's dumb. Yeah, some people are jerks with their phones but this is a draconian way of managing it.

put all phone users in a blocked off area ... like at a bar that has an all-ages show

it's a fair point for sure
Is it?
i was just trying to avoid another "why don't you have kids" conversation
As soon as I realised I was going to have to explain why I thought this was self-evidently such a bad idea, I had an "oh no" moment.
I really wasn't trying to broaden the conversation about kids to the Jack White thread, I just really can't stand Jack White and this seemed super dumb.
