Thanks for the memories of that time. Given this context it seems amazing that the radio thing turned out the way it did! This pandemonium certainly reached Aus in 95 for that tour, but was evolving quite rapidly it seems a year earlier in 94.

Its cool that there are chaps on this forum that were around at that time to share their experiences.

Cheers

We found out about them coming to Murfreesboro about a month befor the show. Everybody stood in line at the Sound Shop and Kroger overnight. We knew about another Ticketmaster outlet a couple of towns over in a department store called Castner Knott. Hardly anyone went there for tickets. I had to work so I couldn’t go, but my brother went with my cousins to get me 2 tickets. My cousins both got the first row center in the reserved section. My brother right behind them got mine which were the last row of the arena. That’s how fast they went. But hey, I got tix.

Fast forward to the night of the show and one of my cousins decided he couldn’t go after driving to the venue so he traded his tix for mine then traded those for two knockoff t-shirts.

We walked to the show about a quarter mile in absolutely torrential rain and I ended driving back home in the worst rain I’ve ever tried to drive in. I couldn’t even see the hood of my car. What should’ve taken about an hour took over two and a half. Totally worth it. What a fucking incredible show.

Cut to two weeks later and the Atlanta radio show. We were almost pissed that Atlanta got so many more tunes than we got. What an awesome show.

Thanks for the stories, guys. It's interesting that both Nirvana and Pearl Jam played that somewhat obscure venue in Springfield, MA. Both bands were huge and culturally mainstream by that time, but I wonder if some prominent venues didn't want to book them because of paranoia about the perceived alternative (for lack of a better word) scene and youthful crowds with moshing etc.?
