he quoted an email i sent him in his american gods podcast. i felt like a million bucks. that guy’s brilliant
I love how literary he is. And his breakdown of TFA is something any detractor should listen to. I don't agree with everything he says (Adam Driver not being compelling is a good example) but in terms of theme and structure and breakdown and how TFA isn't a ripoff of A New Hope, the podcast is necessary and vital. He opens it up and nails it down.

Totally agree. He has two talks on TFA and they’re both great. The commentary is just ok.

Oh man, I love that commentary. Granted, I've only listened to the first half hour. But I think it's well worth a go.

Well he’s too good sometimes. His mouth is often racing to catch up with his brain so in a commentary setting he doesn’t really get to explore and elaborate as well as he normally would.
Watching this again. What a great film. It owes everything to the OT, sure, but it's still such a great experience. I love watching this movie. It's grown better with age.
This movie is fucking great. Wow. That Force Flash... I'm more convinced now than ever that we're going to see that Knights of Ren in the Rain scene in Ep 9. That was absolutely a flash forward.
TLJ was epic storytelling. I loved it. But I miss JJ's aesthetic. TFA has weight. The ships, the VFX, the sabers. They all feel heavy and real. Max doesn't look CGI. It all adds to the immediacy. The stakes are so high because we feel immersed.
