it's not all that difficult to grasp the idea of a song through a 20-second clip. sure, the song will take turns and will have a bridge and maybe a verse will be different. you can usually narrow down the concept pretty easily. i've never gone through a clip of a song on iTunes and been like, "Hmm, that kinda sucked, but maybe the rest of the song is better. I'll buy it!"
times i've heard shitty clips of songs and have been correct on my assumption:
1) The Fixer – that crappy 15 second clip that someone recorded on the sidewalk through a door of the band performing the song for that Target commercial. Hated it then, hate it now 2) Worldwide Suicide - that 10 second clip they released on MySpace(?) that showcased the loud Eddie scream in the song. Ended up being a pretty misleading tease of how the song sounded, but nevertheless, i still liked the song about the same as when I heard that clip 3) Sometimes - heard about 5 seconds of the song intro on a crappy behind-the-counter boombox as I walked out the record store after purchasing it the morning it was released. was confused by it, but loved what i heard. still love it to this day.
times i've been totally wrong in my assumption:
Infallible - that sound clip someone recorded outside the venue during soundcheck. sounded awesome. boy were we wrong.

and if you dont like the fixer then i dont like you.
Ill defend backspacer except for unthought known and amongst the waves. Backspacer was an honest attempt at something different. Lightning Bolt was an honest attempt at recreating something they aren't anymore.

I can get behind this. it was at least an attempt, considering the album(s) that came before it. LB just felt like cold leftovers.

Dear god I wish we could just stop talking about BS and LB. In no corner of the internet should something so mediocre and forgettable be so incessantly scrutinized.

No way you can judge that song based on a clip from a movie trailer.

i think it sounds fine too. it's not gonna be my favorite song, but from the clip i'm finding it at least intriguing. the keys/piano(?) sound interesting and kind of wonky, in a good way. sounds like a solid Stone tune. lots of things butting up against each other, including vocals.
i'm wondering if this was a song written specifically for the movie? or an outcast from recent recording sessions that they wanted to release
