- Collaborating with Boom Gaspar, and thinking that adding a Hammond B3 organ to their sound in general was a good idea.
- Collaborating with Brendan O'Brien in later years, who lets them do whatever they want on studio and doesn't have the guts to say "no", or "that's not good enough".
- Pearl Jam turning into a dad rock band, as opposed to other bands/musicians from the same era or with the same age.
- Matt Cameron's unfitting playing style in Pearl Jam (too many toms/hard hitting toms), playing some old songs way too fast (Evenflow), and the sound of his drums in general (even his snare sounds like a tom).
- Backspacer, Lighning Bolt and at least half of Riot Act.
- Firing Dave Abbruzzese and in the process losing most of their classic badass rock sound.
- Insisting on punk songs with Eddie screaming beyond his current vocal range capabilities when they never were really a punk rock band anyways.
- Too many acoustic lullabies.
- Eddie's ukulele playing overstaying its welcome.
- Stone Gossard letting Eddie lead the band in later years.
It's not a single moment or decision, but I would say the gradual shift from conducting their business as artists to entertainers. It happened around 2006 or so.

I agree with that in general. But, I think the shift started in 2003.

Letting Future Days be a PJ song.
If there were less parameters on what could be a PJ song could be post-riot act, the last 3 albums might not have been so shit.
In saying that, future days shouldn't have been a PJ song/song.
Its basically an acoustic solo song without a proper translation with the band...and it sucks also, but thats my taste. Im guessing Brendan is also choosing songs now, because im amazed the band let that sucker as a closer for an album.

I was thinking of the cease & desist against TVM (The Video Mission) and TSIS back in 2002, following the release of Birdman sessions.

Seeking safety. Seeking safety is the worst thing they've ever done.
It produced the long-lived professional relationships that gave us terrible sounding recordings and remasters. It made Lightning Bolt. It degraded Ed's lyric writing, abandoned creativity, and evaporated any sense of sonic risk taking. It has prevented them from exploring approaches that would better fit Ed's vocal changes. It made them worship their own past.

It made them boring.
tl;dr: they decided to care more for their legacy than their art.

I say this with 100% sincerity: Ten Club business practices and customer support.
To expand upon this: They become creatively bankrupt yet still have a legion of loyal fans. Their reward? $15 to ship an envelope of stickers and an attitude of complete contempt when the customer complains it arrived damaged.
