I probably notice that intro drum fill in Brain of J more than any other drumming moment.

thank you for the replies.

additional questions:

Generally speaking... are PJ song highly regarded in the drumming world?

Does anyone know of a thread that discusses Pearl Jam drumming in detail? I am trying to get a better grasp of the style(s) of drumming PJ exhibits and how that changes among the different drummers.

Thank you all!
:peace:

I can't think of any specific threads, but somewhere in this interview with Matt he talks about how he avoids rim shots, and makes a concerted effort to hit his drums in the very center of their heads for every hit (interview is broken into two parts):
http://www.thetrapset.net/095-matt-came ... onspiracy/
http://www.thetrapset.net/bns-matt-came ... questions/

Contrast that with older print interviews with Jack in which he talks about being heavily inspired by Max Roach, who had a much more fluid and dynamic approach to the instrument.

And then Dave is a funk machine with umpteen cymbals.

Matt says he 'avoids rimshots' simply to keep Lance Mercer at bay
