Painful? I'll give you that the premiere would really have to deliver to not feel a little tired after a long hiatus and older characters, but come on. Even at its least funny, this show is situational comedy in the most literal sense. Which is to say that it's always good for a few laughs.

I wouldn't go as far as "painful", but it did feel strained and tired. The worst though is that it just wasn't funny-- I laughed exactly once: when Larry imitated Richard Lewis's bird supposedly saying "Seinfeld".
I'll watch episode 2 later today, which I hear is funnier

I didn't love episode 3. It had some minor moments that gave me a chuckle, but it was one of those episodes where it felt like Larry was purposely just being an asshole and picking fights with everyone. I'm glad the disguise is gone too, it was annoying me. Larry looks funny anyway, so obscuring his natural funny look doesn't work for me.
However, I just caught next week's episode and I loved it! That's how I like my Curb

Agree with all, this season has been pretty underwhelming. I'm hoping it picks up a bit. Also not really feeling the "look" of it. Before the show had this like standard definition look to it; like a low-budget comedy (yet the show was hilarious). Now it feels and looks like a modern day sitcom. Kind of hard to explain, but has anyone else noticed this?

I know that's just the way tv shows are shot these days but the older look was a better fit. Not as jarring as when Always Sunny switched over; that change really stood out.
Finished season three of my rewatch now. Had never seen season one, but had seen most of the episodes in seasons two and three. Some great episodes. Best when they did something original, instead of when they just follow the formula.

This last episode was real weird. The pieces were there, but it didn't really come together in a satisfactory way IMO. The ending seemed completely tacked-on and inorganic

I feel like there were too many stories going on at once for one episode

you know the "even bad pizza" thing?
well the worst curb episode this season is better than any other comedic TV show in the last 5 years. i'm excluding dramedy shows like Atlanta, Louie, etc.
