The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

Both OT and prequel trilogy Blu Rays on sale on Amazon. Is the OT set worth the upgrade over my DVD copies?
Do you have the 1997 OT set that has the original cuts of the films with them on bonus discs? If so hold onto them.
The blu ray of the OT is just copied from the laser disc transfer from the 80s/90s and it has all sorts of problems that are all the more apparent cos of the higher res on blu ray. You’re not gaining anything by buying the OT on blu ray really. Get the prequels though for sure.

Nope. I only have the special edition VHS tapes and the 2004 DVD Trilogy.

It is hoped that the OT will be released in 4k as part of the launch of Disney’s new streaming service in 2019. Not definite though.
Screw it. If you want em on blu ray get em. Not sure what the bonus content or commentaries etc are like. Do know that they made a total balls of the transfer to blu ray though so if you can ignore the quality issues get them.
I have the bluray from a few years ago. I think they're worth a look. There were a lot of extra clean ups and colour corrections on those versions. To my eye they were certainly sharper than the dvd versions. The sound was an improvement too via my Dolby digital system.
Plus you get like 3 discs of extras and behind the scenes.

I have a bluray/DVD combo pack of the OT, I don't know from what year. I don't have a bluray player, so I've never watched the bluray. I just felt left out of the conversation.
