So one thing I think maybe I haven't shared before is that for the past year, I've been working towards submitting a packet for the NBC Late Night Writers Workshop. Have been taking a bunch of classes -- a few online courses with The Second City, plus a few local ones at the university and the local improv troupe.

Anyway I finally submitted my packet last night and I felt like it was strong enough to at least get a notice. I know that they rarely pick anyone from their first submission and anticipate applying for the next several years. Felt good though.

Love it!!!

A couple of days ago I finished the fourth draft of my second novel. I need to go over it a bit but I think I'm ready for readers. Also, I'm finally at the point where I'm researching editing services. Feels awesome. And terrifying.

While you're working on your second novel, I would like to read the first one.

That's fantastic, Trag. Good luck!

Last week I finished the second draft of novel #3.

Today I finished the first draft of a new short story and I did a blog post.

The early part of this pandemic saw me writing a lot. The last two months, the drive has faded. It's getting harder and harder and my depression and isolation anxiety is ramped WAY the fuck up. I feel like I'm finally at the place most of my friends were in last April/May.

Maybe reporting my progress here will help keep me accountable? Keep me working?

I've started work on a new fantasy series. Very early stages. I've always been more of a discovery writer but I'm finding this requires a lot more brainstorming and outlining. It's fun to world build a bit and sketch stories/events that happen in the world but won't be a part of the larger narrative (most likely).

Hey thanks for asking about this wease. I was not selected, but they told me they liked my submission and encouraged me to apply again in 2021.

hello writers of RM,

what inspires you to write?

when do you feel like you're most productive - day? night? caffeinated? inebriated? sober?

how long do you try to write when you do sit down? do you sit down?

In the past year, I've written almost nothing--there just isn't any time. My schedule is full from 5AM to 11PM, and if I want to read for 30 minutes I'll do it as I pass out at night. It's depressing.

Before that, in happier times, I always wrote at night, especially late into the night. Not sure why, but the juices just flow better then.

In "normal" times when I have a 40 hour / week job, I write whenever I can. I don't have a set schedule. I'm not a "get up early and write before lunch" kinda guy. My schedule usually allowed me to write in the afternoon, though. I used to love getting off work at 3pm and taking the train back home, hitting up my favorite local, and writing for 3 or 4 hours, headphones on, pint before me. That's probably my favorite writing situation.

Right now, since I don't have a job, I usually get up, work out, shower, eat, and then write from about 12-5, give or take. I don't always drink when I write. But I do like to drink when I write, if that makes sense. I'm a big fan of the "write drunk, edit sober" idea. Though, I don't always take that literally, of course. Write drunk doesn't mean you have to have a drink. Lately, I've been doing all of my writing with a pot of coffee.

As far as inspiration goes, I don't really wait around for it. The fact of writing, the act of sitting down to do it, is inspiring to me. I'm not a big believer in inspiration or writer's block or any of that. It's about the doing.
