My kid's band, Sally's Hot has their newest song up on bandcamp. They're young, they do everything but mastering themselves. I think there's a good song in there but they didn't quite find it. This is the slowest song they've ever written and my son admits they didn't quite no what they were doing on the breakdown as this is the first time they didn't just half time it. Any thoughts and feedback appreciate and passed on to them.

I've heard that same voice a million times in the past 14 years. The music itself is good and they have talent. The bridge fits (and was better than I expected from what you said) but I'd speed up the timing about 15 seconds before the vocals come back in. I'd play up the build in intensity early and let it climb.

Not a bad song overall. But yeah like your title says....it would be more interesting if they could find their own style.

That's about as harsh of a critique as I can make about it. Maybe a quick lead break that follows the riff right at the end that fades out.

Hard to critique these types of song since the genre is so formulaic that if you hit all the beats you are usually pretty safe. The chorus needs some work. By the time you get there the singers delivery is pretty repetitive. It's da da da da da da da da da da da da the whole song. Needs a switch up there. If you are gonna do a pop song might as well go big on the chorus and sing something catchy.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It gets passed on. They're still young (19) and trying to figure out their way given their limitations.

I liked it-- I like the intro, and the little tiny offbeat parts were cool.

I liked the off-chord parts.

the more things they do that are "different" (unique, that is) as a band and with their songs and with their recording techniques, the better they will be, I think.

The verses and prechoruses are great, and there's some really smart guitar playing there for this type of music. I agree that the chorus is a bit of a let down - it needs a bit more variation or melody in the vocal. Think of how the rhythm/feel of the song changes on the 'Dammit' chorus, for example.
