Donuts aren't very popular down here. We have these things called facturas. They're pretty good, but not as good as donuts.

What's your favorite NYC donut? We had a miserable experience at Donut Plant -- stood in a line in the rain for an hour for a donut that was so-so. So (heh) I am partial to Dough donuts, but I imagine there are more shops opened since I left.

Dough is the gold standard. I'm not sure I can appreciate any donuts anywhere anymore because of Dough. Those things are amazing. However, I have found that they are starting to decline a bit because they sell to SO many places. For the absolute best quality, you have to go directly to their shop in Bed Stuy. They are absolutely phenomenal.

I like Donut Plant a lot. Especially if I want something different. But really Dough. It's all about Dough.

My all-time favorite donut is from this place, which is in the same room as Boise Fry Company:

www.gurudonuts.com

My favorite local place is in one of the most underrated cities in the country, Wilmington, NC:

I love Guru. They moved out of the fry bar spot and into a new location, hoping to be in Boise again this fall and will report back.

When did this happen? I was just there last year.

Not sure. My cousins from Boise visited us last weekend, and they broke the news (they know it's our favorite place in town).

This place in town is pretty good. Sometimes these are perfect but sometimes you just need a shitty cheap donut.
