The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

Put up a squad of six beers. Eight teams is better than six. Anyone who wants in on this tourney should put up a squad of six so-far-unselected beers. Two more teams would be great.
For voting: I'm thinking we should have some system whereby voters who can prove that they have tried the beers in question get more points for their vote. Like, everyone gets six points no matter what. If you can prove that you've tried one beer from each team, your vote would be worth seven points. Two beers from each team is 8 points. All twelve beers in the matchup-12 points. You could only gain points by trying an equal number of beers from each squad, though. So if you've had all six from one team but only two from the other team, your vote would still be worth only eight points.
I would say proof of having tried a beer would include an old post in the beer thread in this or the archived board, or some kind of picture of a pint or an empty bottle or something. Or maybe this should be an honor system thing.

Okay, here's my pass at a team:
Cigar City Jai Lai IPA Left Hand Milk Stout St. Bernardus Pater 6 (Dubbel) Victory Golden Monkey (Tripel) Founders Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar
I could drink just those six beers for the rest of my life and be relatively happy, I think.

Match-ups are going to last one month each. When voting, please post which of the beers you yourself have actually tasted. You don't need to post a review or a picture, just a list. The more beers you've tasted from each team, the more your vote will be worth. to wit: at least 1 beer from one team but 0 from the other: 3 points for your vote at least 1 beer from each team: 7 points at least 2 beers from each team: 8 points 3: 9 4: 10 5: 11 all beers from both teams: 12 points max So take your time. No need to vote first thing today. Try to see if you can find some of these beers in your hood. Maybe someone will find a way to get them to you?
Drinking an uneven number of beers from each team will not increase your vote's point value in this tourney. However, it will get you drunk so you should definitely still do it if you have the chance. Good luck, players.
The match-ups:
Matchup 1 NOW-~July 25 vegman Ithaca Flower Power DIPA Ole' Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter Victory Prima Pils Saison Dupont Ayinger Brauweisse vs. @Skitchp Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout Stones "Enjoy By" Bells 25th Anniversary Ale Troegs Nugget Nectar Russian River Blind Pig IPA Bells Third Coast Old Ale

That means that in order to win this tournament, Skitch technically has to be alive for seven more months?

So I'm not sure what my votes should look like. Is it one team's first beer vs. 2nd teams first beer or do we just rate each beer from each team? And do we vote on our own matchup? I'm new to the tourney thing, I just like beer.
I can probably come up with at least one of those Bells in PA and I've had tons of the Nugget Nectar but no way can I get the Founders Canadian or Russian River.

Ithaca Flower Power DIPA - Havent had this, and Probably wont be able to. Ole' Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout - Very good beer, and had it not already been picked when I had to replace my joke hopslam I would have picked it. Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter - Solid beer, but I dont love it. Victory Prima Pils - Not my favorite, but a good choice. Saison Dupont - I dont care much for Belgians. (ive had this one and didnt like it much) Ayinger Brauweisse - .... or wheat beers. (havent tried because I dont really like wheat beers)
vs.
@Skitchp
Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout Stones "Enjoy By" Bells 25th Anniversary Ale Troegs Nugget Nectar Russian River Blind Pig IPA Bells Third Coast Old Ale
Needless to say, Ive had all 6 of mine, and pick my team because it's, you know, my team.

Guys, I just got a text from Reid. He's having internet issues again, but really would like to field a team now. Can we back this up a couple steps and allow him in?

If I make the cut, here's my team. I'm posting from my iPhone while listening to The Meters on pandora in my car and waiting for a train to pass. Cheers, Mosquitos.
