if you bake a lot like we do, grating a frozen stick of butter sure does the trick...add it to flour etc...also works when your butter is too cold to spread on toast or whatnot

Also, adding a few marshmallows to brown sugar keeps it from clumping.

You can also rescue clumped sugar by placing in a bowl and covering with a damp towel.

sometimes I forget that I'm boiling water for eggs and 15 minutes later I hear the water boiling over the top of the pot..you can lay a wooden spoon over the top and it will no longer boil over

The corn and the egg yolk are potential game changers.
The popcorn can and the shoe/wine bottle are highly suspect.

On the topic of corn, if you put your ears of corn in a pot of cold water, then put the stove top on high, when the water begins to boil the corn will be perfectly cooked. I started using this method just a year or so ago and works great.

I just put them on the grill or in the over, husks and all, for about 30 minutes or so.

I agree this is a preferred method. But in the case of an early winters storm or rainy day when you still crave corn when it is available, the boiling pot method does the trick.

Is Corduroy your favorite Pearl Jam song?

Yea, I only grill them in the husk in the summer (But: I peel back the husk, remove the silk, then fold the husk back up. I then soak 'em in salted water for 10-20 minutes while the grill heats up.

Any other season, I typically just buy frozen kernels and blanche them. Frozen corn is one of the few processed veggies that holds up really well to the process.
