Apart from the mini bananas, I've never even seen another variety, as best as I can recall.

Just like with apples there are tons of different bananas, but only one kind is being sold wholesale worldwide. Weird. I would really like to taste the Gros Michel, which was the original banana to be sold worldwide, and with more taste.

There are more than a thousand different kind of bananas. However, 95% of bananas sold worldwide are Cavendish bananas.

Most other bananas are actually better. Cavendish was considered something you threw away, until it got pushed heavily, after the past king of bananas had problems with its plants.

So I guess I'm eating cavendish.

We all do. However, I do get Thai Apple Bananas from an Asian specialty store here in Oslo. The States have much easier access to different flavors though.

If we have easier access, why have I never heard about this?

Not sure. Hawaii and Florida are hot spots for a variety in bananas.

This from Hawaii is really cool: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_55f8d ... 492d638853
