We often toss some farro into our salads. Cook the farro with water, a splash of apple cider vin, a bay leaf, and a garlic clove.

I've served farro in restaurants before, but I've never paid much attention to the way the chefs prepare it. I'm tucking this post in my back pocket.

I briefly thought about canned sardines, then I slowly walked away from that thought.

Kind of exactly what I was thinking.

Oh no, you weren't wrong. Anchovies on a salad is fine by me. I'm just talking about my idea of throwing crappy, oil-soaked sardines onto fresh greens.

Gotcha. I usually use anchovies if the salad I'm making is bland as far as seasoning. The type of saltiness in the anchovy is so good to me.

I grabbed some farro at the store and cooked a cup to go along with this salad. Holy shit, this is great stuff. I cooked straight up (with just a little salt) this time around to get a sense of what's going on with it, but I can see how this could be a versatile addition to my pantry. Farro and blueberries wouldn't be a bad breakfast, now that I think about it.

 Happy you followed through on this. I have done a multi-grain breakfast bowl with blueberries: farro, teff, and grits. And as I'm typing, I remember having farro for breakfast when I was farming in Italy. It's such an awesome grain.

Farro has made it onto my regular grocery list since we spoke about it. I made a picnic the other day and had plenty of berries left over, so I threw them in a bowl of farro the next morning with brown sugar. The stuff is amazing.

I've also really been into capers lately. I'll throw some of that on a salad with feta and have no need for a dressing. (I've never really needed a dressing anyway, preferring oil or lemon juice most of the time.)

Yea, we switched to farro when we realized that we didn't really like quinoa, and that even if we did, our purchase of it was having a really bad impact on a population that had subsisted on it for generations.

Really digging this bowl at the moment. Quinoa, local mix of greens, avocado, kidney beans and goat cheese. Just squeezed some lime on it but wish I also had some fish. Next time.

Add cabbage and a mild white fish, you're looking at a solid CA style burrito. Thumbs up, amigo.
