I was thinking about this today. Suppose you were one of the guys in Shawshank that Red got to work on the roof tarring project. You're there when Andy swings his little deal that gets three beers a piece for each person on the job. Now suppose you're serving a life sentence. What three beers do you pick? These are probably the last beers you will ever drink. Keep in mind that it's May, a fine month to be working out doors in Maine.

Since it's gonna be hot up there, I think I want my first one to go down smooth. I'll probably end up chugging it. I think an oatmeal stout might work well here.

Next: Allagash White. My favorite summer beer. Actually, my favorite anytime beer but I particularly like it in the summer.

Last: I need something I'm going to take my time with, a really hoppy IPA that will make me enjoy each sip. I'm thinking Stone IPA or Arrogant Bastard.

I also might go Lagunitas or Dogfish Head. My favorite IPA ever was from Cape Ann Brewery but they don't sell it in bottles. I had to get it in a growler from the brewery. I don't think Andy's tax shelter would be enough to convince Captain Hadley to make the drive. I might have to suck him off.

1. Bell's 2 Hearted Ale
2. Six Point Sweet Action
3. Sierra Nevada Celebration

Not necessarily in that order.

But if I'm facing a life sentence and I only get three for the rest of my life, I want those three.

Probably go Allagash White, Harpoon IPA, and my go-to "you can get this anywhere beer" Bass Ale.

Let's be honest here.

Last 3 beers ever - last chance to drink alcohol ever - you are going for 3 beers with the highest ABV content available.

guys, in the shawshank beer scenario, the beers received were piss warm. if need be, recalibrate your choices based on this.

Which? You can't possibly have them both.
