I've jumped headlong into the world of the french press, without even a rope or an Alex to save me.

Same here. I may never use my Keurig again.

I have a pour-over that I'll probably still use to make a single, quick cup, but my Mr. Coffee is probably going to Goodwill.

Also, can't believe you used a Keurig.

The ONLY way to enjoy coffee. Fresh ground beans and a french press = heaven!

I always defend my Keurig use this way; it's efficient as hell and sometimes any caffeine is good caffeine.

But how grossly unsustainable!

Sometimes I can be a pretty terrible human being.

I suppose we all can.

A real burr grinder is now at the top of my wish-list. Also, how do y'all clean your presses? I've got a Bodum that claims to be dishwasher safe but I'm wary. I've been hand-washing it with water but the oils--they accumulate!

I only wash the thing with soap about once a week. Rest of the time it's a quick rinse with hot water. To be fair, it only gets used about three-four days a week.

If I feel guilty about the wastefulness that comes with using my Keurig (it's used 4 days a week, 2 cups a day), doesn't that make it all okay in the end?

And if you get the right coffee and brew small enough, the coffee isn't half bad, and doesn't require the endless washing (and time) that my French press requires (used about twice a month...maybe).

My blade grinder was used pretty much every day for eight years, and I think I washed it once.

I've read that grinding uncooked white rice and then dabbing the walls with a dry paper towel is a good way to clean a burr grinder.
