i've been working coffee back into my routine a bit in preparation for our italy trip in september, because there's no way i'm not drinking some espresso/coffee there.

Where in Italy? Or did we already cover this when Strat and I posted our own Italy pics?

I've only recently been brewing with a single cup pour over filter. Can't quite seem to get that grind juuust right. The drip is just a little too slow.

Not a burr. It's just a simple electric push grinder. As in, the beans will grind for as long as you push down on the lid.
Are you pulsing rather than pressing one long time? Try a pulse count of 40, that should be in the right neighborhood for your pour over. Each pulse should be super short. If you're just pressing once, you're not grinding them evenly: the beans on the bottom get over-ground, while the ones on top are too coarse. Pulse, pulse, baby...

That's exactly what happens. When I empty the filter and examine the saturated grind mush, I clearly see larger grind right there on the top.
Never even though of pulsing.
I'm glad you sought help. I never thought to seek out a better way, but I've been having the same issue. I look forward to pulsing this weekend (and hopefully not irritating my wife too much).
