This thread is typically reserved for wistful recollections of menus we will never peruse again, but I understand.

I just got word via a long and touching instagram post that a beloved local kombucha bottler is closing their taproom doors and ceasing operations.

In the post, they go to lengths explaining how they did everything by hand for 13 years, never took on a single investor, and distributed through grassroots and grit. Millions of units bottled by hand, two at a time, for 13 years.

I've had this kombucha a lot. It's everywhere in Houston. Their taproom is right down the street from me. I had no idea how DIY they really were.

I'm not a business owner, so I don't really understand, but I've got to applaud these guys for being pure punk rock with their operations and imbedding themselves into the fabric of the community while surely knowing all along that it wouldn't last forever.

Three of Barbara Lynch's flagship restaurants in South Boston are closing immediately, without any prior warning (though she's been having some ongoing scandals, so it's not entirely unexpected).

Lynch is an icon in the Boston food scene, really put the city's modern cuisine on the map with No. 9 Park. She's a qualified disaster, but it's a huge loss for the Boston restaurant community.

Never did, but I served or cooked for her and ate at her restaurants numerous times, have lots of friends who did work for her.

is food-service the most inhumane industry from an HR perspective out there

ironically oft associated a leftist safe space (foody-ism is art!) yet teeming with hierarchical aggression and emotional abuse
