I know this specifically bc my grandmom was in charge of putting together her church’s recipe book, and the recipe her friend submitted was different than the same recipe she gave my grandmom years before. When asked about it, her friend said that she had given her recipe to someone else in town and she used it for a party she was hosting. And her husband wouldn’t stop talking about how good it was.

That's part of the charm. In a specific church cookbook in my collection, there's a recipe for lemon squares and right below it is a recipe from a rival lady for "real" lemon squares. I live for the pettiness in those pages.

Hahaha that’s great. Same here. Just imagining the stink eyes across the church congregations is entertaining.

just ordered a mortal and pestle (primarily to make it easier to grind spices (cleaning the electric spice grinder can get old). i'm excited to smash and cut the tops of my fingers up.

In the market for a new blender.

I’m eyeing a vitamix…one of the less expensive models, or possibly a ninja.

I’m only planning to make smoothies and nut butters.

Anyone have one they really like?

We’ve got a vitamix. Absolutely love it. Can’t remember the model off the top of my head, but I think it was $450. We make frozen fruit smoothies for three just about every day of our lives so it paid for itself pretty quick considering what we’d buy them for at retail.

And then I used a ninja at an Airbnb last weekend, was generally impressed with the power, but the extra tall blades made it impossible to push stuff down while blending. Weird choice.

Ultimately it’s all about motor power. You’ll pay more money for a stronger motor and you’ll know where the money went. Worth it for us. Ymmv.

I could definitely make nut butters with this model, btw.

Nice, yeah I found an E320 at Sams Club for under $300. I’ve been reading reviews on it and powerful motor seems to be the vitamix MO.

Picked up the Vitamix E320 from Sam's Club today. I made a smoothie with it and it did not disappoint. A creamier smoothie in less than half the time compared with the previous blender (Black & Decker).
