My Snap Pea Crisps say, "Fresh Picked Goodness."

??

As in they were fresh picked, then dried and ground into a powder, then mixed with rice flour, oil, and salt and baked back into a snack chip?

Outside of specific health claims, the FDA’s rules on this sort of thing are pretty lax

I always laugh when potato chips are labelled as "gluten free."

B, have you ever read any Michael Pollan or Wendell Berry? If not, I recommend.

Yeah, I've read everything by Michael Pollan.

Berry should be on your list of not already. I think you'd like him based on your Pollan reading and the gist of this thread.

Love pollan’s food and nature writings, but am really turned off by his psychedelic stuff. The mainstream/corporate/NYT embrace of psychedelics is irrationally annoying to me.

The counterculture knew their benefits for years, but an op-Ed in the NYT suddenly gives them legitimacy to the rest of the world? What’s next, house wives listening to Fugazi?

Again, I know it’s irrational, but i cringe every time I see Pollan writing about them.

Have not read his new stuff yet, but I do agree with your sentiment. When I've heard him on podcasts lately I'm always like "where's the old Pollan? Where's the food stuff?" We need it now more than ever.

I do want to read his book about caffeine though.

He was a guest on a podcast — I think it was Fresh Air? — discussing his caffeine book, and I found it very interesting

Mrs. Bam picked up a package of sliced turkey (lunch meat) from Trader Joe’s.

Should I be concerned that the primary claim on the packaging is “FULLY COOKED”?

I noticed that the snap pea crisps also said "Farm-Direct," which is a pointless claim unless it's "farm direct TO ME!"
