have you ever had a chicago italian beef? i get that sucker with hot peppers and dipped. it's like the food of the gods.

what's your favorite beef place? i've only had al's and portillo's.

i've had a lot of them. but honestly, i'd still take a beef from portillo's over all of them. mr. beef is really overrated in my opinion (i like a good tasting giardiniera, and there's is a bland, oily mess with no olive or celery). al's is ok, but the beef is pretty mediocre. roma's in portage park is really good too.

why is everything so good at portillo's? it's amazing, really.

agreed. the best chicago hot dog is still at portillo's.

have you had the combo? oh man . . .

the beef and sausage? i can't bring myself to do it.

Portillo's is indeed great. I also love Murphy's Red Hots.

I've had Murphy's. It's good to be sure. I just wish the pickles were more tart. But it is a good dog.

Good call. I also love the whole Murphy's experience, which always feels authentic.
Portillo's, for as great as their stuff is, feels like a run on flat-screens on Black Friday.

I think I'm going to stop at Red Lobster tonight. I've had gift cards for years.

I got a Hot Italian Beef at Founders today because of Chris and Spike. It was pretty good. Im assuming a cheap imitation of what you guys are talking about, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Dipped with cheese and sweet peppers is the only way to go.

if it's not dipped, you really haven't had an italian beef. the au just saturating the entirety of the bread is a key component flavor-wise and texturally.
