As a matter of fact, just discovered a hole-in-the-wall soul food place here in town called Big Mikes. Was so happy all weekend knowing that I had somewhere new and good to eat.

My family used to own a BBQ restaurant. It was a nice place with a nice kitchen. The food was great but the restaurant biz is a tough one and the competition is cutthroat. We lasted 7 years though. We were one of those local places and we had some great customers that loved us. Oh well.
I absolutely seek these places out. Fuck the Olive Gardens, the Outbacks and Chilis. Support your local businesses!

A few weeks ago I tried a place called Mr. Greek. Awesome gyros and looking at what the other customers were eating...everything looked good! They'll be getting my business again for sure.

Interesting that some of the best food comes from the rattiest looking places

Funny, as a formerly 9 year resident of NYC relocated to Westchester, around here we spend countless hours discussing and arguing about the best neighborhood spots. I went to an Olive Garden a few weeks ago, and it was probably the first chain restaurant (in terms of big chains) that I had eaten at in at least a year.

Yeah, that's kind of how it goes. I never understood how chains survived in NYC but for tourists...though there are plenty in non-tourist areas that apparently do fine.

In any event, even moving to the suburbs that is still the one thing I held on to. Almost never at a big chain restaurant (small chains that are locally based I will go to from time to time). It's not that they are bad as a rule, just that it's not something I have particular cravings for.

Guerros. Less than half a block away. Fried avocado & jalapeno tacos. When that place opened I almost found god.

just a few blocks away, a second-generation german specialty shop resides: schnitzel sandwiches, bratwurst, knackwurst, bockwurst, bier brats, meats/sausages smoked to order, and any and all other german delicacies one might imagine. beyond spectacular.

love watching shows like Bourdain and those others when they are in the south. food just looks amazing.

people around here are so boring and unadventurous. my wife and i were just talking about this the other day, about how people go to the same restaurants all the time. no one wants to try anything new.

can't believe i forgot about this top notch Indian diner down the road. the first time we ate there was on a Friday. we went back that Saturday and Sunday.

Indian food is great! Lots of India natives down here and lots of Vietnamese down here too. We aren't short on foreign cuisine either! As much as I dislike it here, I guess I can't complain about the grub.

I live in Brooklyn.

Just so happens that Crown Heights (my hood) is undergoing a massive shift. Over the last three/four years it's become one of the super cool neighborhoods. We have brand new stuff popping up all around us, all the time. And most of it is stellar.

New ramen place couple streets away is some of the best ramen I've ever had. Gueros tacos are amazing. Dutch Boy Burger is really interesting. Crown Inn has amazing sandwiches, though it's primarily a bar with super low prices and killer cocktails.

I love my neighborhood.

See, I wish I lived in an area like that. I have to drive to get anywhere here. Everything is so spread out here, divided up by rivers, bays and inlets from the Gulf. I'd like to be able to hop on my bicycle and just pedal around town.

I live at the beach..the pickings were slim at best 2 years ago but we've had a boom of good restaurants popping up lately which has been really nice..still have to get in the car and travel into LA and other parts for good ethnic food though
