Everyone has opinions on this drink. Mine’s correct.
3/1 gin and vermouth ratio. Dash of orange bitters and then stir and serve with a twist. This makes a bright, classic expression of the drink. Perfect before or after dinner.
One of my favorite bartenders recently showed me a method he likes, which is to stir with the twist and eschew the orange bitters altogether. Can’t say I hate it, but why fix something that’s not broken?

I expected to have a lengthy and healthy debate when I saw this thread title, but Reid nailed it in the OP and now there's just no point in keeping this thread open.
Mods, please close the thread and sticky so that everyone for the rest of time understands how make a fucking Martini.

Use a nice herbal gin, rather than a dry gin, and this is a slam-dunk gin martini recipe; if the gin is especially great, then I will err on the side of a dry martini (but not bone dry) to get more of the botanicals (things like Citadelle
Reserve, Jackalope, etc are great for this.).
If I want something more savory/briny, then I'm going vodka martini, dirty, cocktail onions or olives depending on my mood.

Under no circumstances should a human drink a vodka martini.

If I'm out of gin at the house but still want to relax I'll make a martini with Tito's.

the dash of orange bitters really makes a huge difference, so make sure that's a part of your first experience

I just really like olives.
A martini bar opened up near the place I lived once and ooooooh boy... things rolled downhill for awhile after that.

The last dirty martini I had was heavy on the brine. I had to wash it down with water and then a Cosmo.

Here's how my uncle makes martinis: he fills a martini glass with gin and then pretends to add vermouth. Then he drops in an olive
