The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I think once the thing (movie, tv show, book, etc) is in wide release, then it's "user beware." As a soft courtesy, I like to use the spoiler tag for two or three days for a TV show and a week for a movie. But I also don't have a problem posting/talking about art in a way that isn't spoilery. So... If the movie has a major twist/reveal, then maybe give it two weeks when talking about that aspect of the thing.
But really, I feel like, it's up to the user to decide when and if they want to enter a thread where discussions are talking place about something they haven't yet consumed.
Which is exactly why I haven't gone into the Twin Peaks thread. I fully expect the discussion of this past Sunday's episode to un-tagged. So, I'm not going in there until after I watch it. Hopefully, tonight.
But I'm guessing you guys mean in the show's thread, right?
You wouldn't go around dropping Game of Thrones spoilers on the Talk About Your Day thread just 'cause it already aired. Right?
This is correct. I'm only talking about the thing's dedicated thread. I think any time you're talking about the movie, show, book, whatever outside of the dedicated thread, you should use Spoiler Tags. Unless the thing is like 5 or 10 years old. But even then, I'd probably use the tag.

Because I've seen people drop massive spoilers on social media and then act all indignant when they're called out because IT'S ALREADY AIRED. THAT'S ON YOU.
It's like they want to take every opportunity they get to be petty assholes
