I started watching this during midnight feedings last week, and 3:00AM with all the lights off is definitely a good atmosphere for it. I've only finished Season 2 so I haven't read all of the comments in this thread, but even perusing a few and reading some recaps I do tend to agree with the general consensus that the smaller episodes are the more successful. "The Entire History of You" and "Be Right Back" are high-water marks for me. Episodes tend to falter when they try to "go bigger" or to make more overt statements; it's just so obvious when the show is being more subtle. "The Waldo Moment" and "White Bear" come to mind as episodes that are half-baked but play like they're profound.
Overall, a fan. Will definitely finish out the other seasons over the next week or so.
Is this a bullying revenge fantasy (A story about how our "callous" treatment of others may come back to haunt us)? A story about big tech's dark desire to control the world to overcome their 'beta' status? White fragility and allyship? I suppose the "twist" was that they escaped the abuser's world into an infinite universe full of abusers, thus their optimism is misplaced and they will suffer forever but trying to cover all this ground at once never gives a chance to develop any of the individual themes and the whole thing falls flat, particularly at the end, where he could have easily exited the game and shut them down rather than chasing. It felt like a betrayal of previous seasons where they always went to the darkest edge of the concept.
