Nah, not lame. I watched an episode earlier and it brought me to tears

There’s a strange comfort watching him on screen today. He lived how he wanted to. I’m not crying, but I’m sad. These episodes make it easier to accept, I guess.

I’m watching the Miami episode of PU right now. No reason other than that I haven’t seen episodes from the early seasons.

He talks to a bar owner who just turned 100 early in the episode and then talks to a restaurant owner about how he could see himself entering his “late era George Hamilton” phase shriveling up on the beach someday.

The food looks fantastic in that scene, of course.

We're going to watch the Armenia one again tonight. One of my favorites from the recent seasons

That sounds a lot like Shorty’s Place in Port Aransas and Planet Follywood just down the coast from the historic part of Charleston. I’m sure there are untold amounts of coastal dives around America with bartenders and regulars just praying no one ever features them in their travel doc.

i love anthony bourdain

and i want the generation of self-important self-identifying 'foodies' that he inspired to follow in his footsteps and go off themselves as well

i don't care about your opinions

just because you are willing to ride amsterdam bicycles to buy an obscure sandwich doesn't make you intelligent and i am tired of listening to you talk about OH MY GAAAD HOW GREAT THIS SANDWICH IS

or cronuts or whatever the fuck it is

fuck yourselves

Spoiler: show

very sad news.

Continuing through Parts Unknown. It’s hard. Making me tear up a lot. But the Vietnam episode wrecked me. Beginning with pictures of Bourdain and the guide from 2000, looking so young, then ending with Bourdain saying “I’ll come back to Vietnam always.”

Goddammit. This has been a weird day.

I'll watch some of his stuff again soon. But I couldn't possibly do it today.

Instead, I cooked myself dinner. That was tribute to him today. I made myself food. I cooked, which I never do, and I thought of him.

I also cooked a big dinner. Even kind-of-sort-of made up my own dish.

i didn't cook, but as we sat down to eat, i felt compelled to toast AB with my wife. i guess i've always thought of him a little whenever i sit down to a good, genuine meal. maybe i always will.

What did you make?

Burgers. Don't have a grill so I had to make them in the cast iron.

Steak, Brussels sprouts, and a concoction I made out of mashed potatoes, arborio rice, and cheddar cheese.

How did the concoction turn out? It sounds wonderful!
