I really enjoyed this movie. It had the guts to tell a somewhat different story, and in the way only a movie could, took us through various chapters in her life in a couple of hours. Just when it you thought it might get stale, they changed it around, and moved the story ahead.
I really enjoyed the first part of the movie on Themyscira. We get to see her both as a youth, as a teen, and as a young woman. Living in endless peace, and then having war and loss brutally pushed into her life. While there is plenty to enjoy, the movie takes several leaps forward when Gal Gadot enters the screen. She is truly wonderful in the entire film, beautiful and strong. She and Chris Pine are often funny together, like early on in the boat scene.
We then get to experience both London and the great war about one hundred years ago, and it's all beautifully shot, with both humor and action scenes intertwined. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman always remains on the forefront of what happens, never passive, always ready to do the right thing.
After several interesting war scenes, the movie avoids several pitfalls, and manages to move on in an admirable way, to the big end battle. In it we again feel loss and pain, as we are in the middle of a great struggle. Of course we never believe Wonder Woman will lose, but still with good acting and a well built up movie, it reaches a satisfying climax.
Two thumbs up for me. Now I will go think of Gal Gadot.
