I loved Rescue Rangers, and was mostly indifferent to this.

one of the actor kids' names is finn wolfhard and every time i see it pop up on the screen i can't help but think of that one mystery science theater episode where they keep giving the main character names like rip steakface and brick hardmeat.

Finished it tonight. Liked it quite a bit. I think if you have kids Ryder's performance won't seem so over the top. If she was at a 10 I'd be at 100.

I'll have an acting clinic soon so that you guys can understand what we're talking about when we talk about how bad her acting is in this. Book soon! Spots are filling up fast.

It ain't real, pal. I'm not telling a real person how to behave. I'm talking about what makes a good performance.

Reminds me of that interview Jack Nicholson gave about working with Kubrick on The Shining. And he talked about how hard he worked on giving the most real performance he could. He talked about how he wanted people to see his performance and think... "yeah, that's it! That's exactly how it would be. It's totally real!" He felt like that was the only way to ground the absurdity of the movie.

And so the do a few takes and Jack's all, "See how real my performance is?!" And Kubrick was all like, "Yeah, it's real but it's not interesting."

She should have just been kind of miffed at first that her kid was missing and probably dead.

Joey's point several pages back about Ryder starting at 10, and then having nowhere to go, was perfect. You should just quote your own post, Joey.

She starts at a frazzled 6, and then quickly progresses to 10 once it becomes clear that her kid is nowhere to be found. As one would expect.

I think this is from the pilot. Looks like an 8.5 to me.

Yes. Her kid is missing after the first 5 minutes of the pilot. She finds out shortly thereafter. And her character hasn't exactly been coasting through life up to this point.
