The Document episode of R U Talkin' was probably my favorite yet.
I still don't really have a problem with Scott. Shrug. I actually found myself agreeing with him on the second half of the record, which I've always thought was kind of weak.
I think his fart story in the first half is the first time I've legitimately LOL'd at the show, too.
I've kept listening and I think how much I dislike him varies from episode to episode, and often depends on how mean he is being to Adam. I still think he is fixated on certain musical ideas to the detriment of the potential analysis they could do, but I guess this is a comedy podcast first and foremost
Team Jorge, more or less.
And for what it's worth, I did tend to agree with Scott on many of his Document takes, too.

I’m listening to the first Green episode now and he is kind of ragging on Adam a lot here. I can understand where you guys are coming from. But I dunno — I guess it just strikes me as more of a playful sort of thing than anything actually hostile. I don’t think Adam takes it personally.

I love how defensive Adam is about Out of Time. I'm with him 100% on this one. And I can DEFINITELY see how people would find Scott close-minded after some of his comments here; his whole "this is not a song" thing is...questionable, at best.
All in all, though, a good episode. I'm flying through these now. Hoping to listen to the Automatic ep tonight.
There's something about that REM series that is so goddamn addictive.
Listening from the beginning now and the U2 stuff definitely contextualizes the later stuff but the vibe isn't the same yet. I'm only 2 eps in and I like it but it hasn't quite found its feet yet.
But Scott is much less obnoxious and bullying. So far.
The Joshua Tree ep of U Talkin' U2 is pretty great. I'm in love with Adam's "I want those t-shirts" bit. And it feels like they're getting more comfortable. Harris is hilarious. It's kind of like if Reid and Pete had a pod and then Jordan joined them for a bit. I goddamn loved it.
I do wish they'd listen to more of the songs (like in the REM iteration) and discuss them track by track in a bit more detail. But otherwise, I'm digging it.

Harris is so fucking funny in the show. Just wait until the Commentary Special (probably my favorite episode). I’m sad he never got to do the R.E.M. show.

I also feel like I'm on team Harris regarding U2 in general. Like, I think they're cheesy and of a time and all of that. But I'm also not overly familiar with their whole body of work. But more than a "cheesy" sound (which is hard to define and a little silly) I think it's more of a lack of general authenticity.
Ultimately, I think it's why Backspacer and Lightning Bolt (though I enjoy them more than most here) aren't as good. It feels like Pearl Jam trying to sound like Pearl Jam. Or what they think the masses like about Pearl Jam, what will sound good at a stadium full of people. U2 sounds like that to me. Like a band trying to sound like the biggest band in the world and acting like it's still true even if it never was (which, obviously... it was true at one point, but whether or not it was true is irrelevant to them; they'd sound like they were regardless).

I find it deeply funny that Adam and Scott both find it completely absurd and ridiculous that Harris thinks “One” sounds “90s.” Because it of course it sounds super ‘90s!
