OK, so as an example: the ship and boat at the beginning of the film is the same as the ones at the end of the film, they are just told from different perspectives. It's because there are three timelines.

It's not literally Memento and being told backwards, that's just the most similar movie I could think of.

Ah. There we go. Then we're on the same page.

The level of incompetence in the editing and direction of Dunkirk is truly surprising. And concerning. People don’t even seem to understand the basic GRAMMAR of cinema anymore, let alone how human emotion works.

Are they trying to change the grammar though?
I know what you mean and I see it a lot these days but the only conclusion I came to is well maybe styles are changing and evolving.

If they’re trying, they’re failing. There are movies that legitimately change how we view montage in cinema (Battleship Potemkin, Breathless), but this is not that. This is just bad filmmaking.

This film ruined my Ryan Gosling fantasy. He’s depicted as the one note one line of dialogue is all he is capable of charlatan he’s accused of being.

I like them pretty and stupid. The quieter and the stupider and prettier they are, the better.

But he looks like he needs help even working a tp dispenser in this.

Such a heartbreaking shame.

There’s the other thing. Was he??? This is where the original blade runner lost me too who the fuck is what and why can’t we make it intriguing instead of confusing?!?

And if he is a robot!! Why does he have a fucking coffee machine and why does he even need a TP dispenser to be unable to use one?)

I thought AI in the future coming to usurp us was THE POINT OF THE FILM??

He can barely put a sentence together ffs!!

It's Harrison Ford's character that is up in the air as to whether or not he is a robot, dime. Gosling's character is very much a robot, there were tons of scenes referencing it in the movie

Everyone at work hated him because he was a robot, the baseline tests, the references to his model number...
