It's been thirty-four years since director Ridley Scott brought us the original Blade Runner, and in a few short months, the sequel to the sci-fi classic will kick off production with Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in tow.

Nearly thirty-five years after the Ridley Scott-directed original hit theaters, Blade Runner is finally getting a sequel with Harrison Ford (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) all set to return as Rick Deckard. Yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures officially placed Blade Runner 2 on their upcoming release schedule, assigning the film a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend release date - January 12, 2018.

Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) is currently attached to direct with a script from Michael Green (Wolverine 3) & Hampton Fancher (Blade Runner). Academy Award-nominee Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys) has been confirmed to star in the lead role alongside Ford and even though he's not directing, Ridley Scott (The Martian) will still serve as an executive producer on the project.

The film is expected to kick off production this July.

I don't remember -- Can replicants age? If not, Ford's involvement would finally put to rest the "is he or isn't he" debate.

Supposed to have a 4 year lifespan. But there's probably 67 plot conveniences to get around that.

Do the Director's Cut. You don't want the theatrical narrator.

I think we've been over all of this before, but you really want "Blade Runner: The Final Cut."

I'm going to slowly sneak into this thread, say the following, and carefully sneak out, hoping that no one notices:

Spoiler: show
Outside of a few scenes...I really didn't enjoy Blade Runner.

Blade Runner 2 was almost on my list of joke sequel ideas. What a fucking stupid thing to do in real life.

I'd rather see a TV show than a sequel.

You shouldn't be ashamed guys. There are a lot of people around here you don't like it very much or at all. It's not a terribly uncommon opinion around here.

It's sort of fantastic, dreary slog of a movie. The aesthetic and mood are so great, ditto the music and audio. But there's a lot of plodding in the plot, and it's one of those movies I find doesn't hold my attention unless I'm in the perfect mood to watch it.

Teaser definitely piqued my interest. Maybe this is finally the right material for Villenueve.
