Travolta's face is much much worse.

Also that speech he gives his daughters (the kardashians) about being good people was kind of a.....jab on them, yes?

A jab? I don't know. But it was definitely tongue-in-cheek. And another reverence to how this trial gave birth to reality television. We likely don't know who the fuck the Kardashians are if not for OJ fucking Simpson (allegedly) killing Nicole Brown.

I'm definitely intrigued by the crime/reality tv aspect of this, but this last comment seems like a stretch. Aren't they basically famous because one of them made a sex tape?

But why did anyone care that a Kardashian made a sex tape? Why did the Kardashians go into reality TV? It all goes back to OJ and the fact that Robert Kardashian was one of OJ's lawyers and best friends. It's all complex but the show does a great job of tying everything together. The whole country shifted during that trial. Things were never the same.

Angry Los Angeles jurors, large personality lawyers, a judge that clearly pines for the camera, the "Dancing Ito's" on The Tonight Show, all the while the trial is televised 24/7 for nearly a year.

DNA evidence becomes a household phrase, which spawns a new genre of TV shows, the "medical procedural" along with the Kardashian family and the boom of Reality programming. It's all there.

There's also some great in depth stuff into Marcia Clark. They dig into the way the public perceived her during the whole thing. They get into the gross misogynistic politics of the whole thing. You really care about these people and root for them in surprising ways.

You should check it out.

My heart breaks for Marcia Clark.

Its fun for me because i think i was in 7th grade during this? Some memories come back but i dont recall the racial aspect of it all. I was young and white.

My wife and I were talking about this as well. All that stuff was very clear in my mind at the time. The show hit the nail on the head by opening with the Rodney King riots. That's the perfect frame work for the series. And I love that they keep exploring that issue because it was so huge. My wife doesn't remember much if any of that stuff at the time either.

I went to the "ghetto" high school in my town in Kansas. There were three high schools. Mine was the one that wasn't mostly white and had a range of income level families. I remember watching the verdict live, in class, and all the black students cheered and ran up and down the halls and high-fived each other. Some cried. They were so happy. It meant a lot to them to see a powerful black man beat the system and beat the cops.

The teachers, all white, were clearly nervous. They were ready for things to get out of hand, which they did not. But there was a clear divide when that verdict was read.

No joke. That's the stuff that I don't remember. I remember the haircut and all that. But the nude pics? The custody battle? The sexism? I wasn't aware of any of that stuff at the time. And I love how they reframed the terrible haircut and presented it fresh. It gave the whole thing a new context and it just broke my heart.

My mind has always had a conspiracy theory bent to it. I was so wrapped up in the defenses case. Blood being in places it shouldn't be. The glove! All of it. So I wasn't shocked by the verdict but I still think he did it.

The first two episodes of this were a bit too melodramatic for my taste but the last few have made up for it and more. Really good stuff.

joey gets it.

along with the camp, they also play a little fast and loose with the facts. but it doesn't matter, it's riveting and chalk full of great performances. multiple emmys should come from this, mainly paulson.

Agreed. The guys playing Cochran and Darden have been terrific too.

I always wondered what it was like for people who lived through the events that get turned into tv drama specials...who saw them play out in real time and followed them on the news....to watch those specials. What did memory of the reality imbue the dramatization with?

The answer turned out to be: silliness

He looks like a Bobby Moynihan SNL character. I can't unsee it.

I watched the first episode and most of the second. I realize they are trying to pull in the young female viewers, but there was just too much Kardashian in this for my liking.

I was a college freshman when the verdict was read, so I remember this pretty vividly. Obviously Robert Kardashian was there, but I don't remember Kris Jenner being involved at all, and especially don't remember the kids being mentioned.

So needless to say, when they started chanting "KAR-DASH-I-AN!!!" over and over in the second episode, I rolled my eyes, stopped the recording and haven't watched it since.

So does it get better once they get into the actual trial stuff?

the kardashian stuff goes away and they've even scaled robert k's role back a ton.
