To the surprise of no one, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I thought the main kid was great; he really won me over. Got hit with some unexpected emotion every now and then too (one scene in particular). The relationship between the kid and Elba was effective.

It needed about another half hour, though. The climax was rushed.

:heartbeat:

Legend has it that the original cut was 2 and a half hours. Man, I hope we get that cut one of these days.

I agree about the climax, but it could have benefitted from some more early backstory on TMIB and Roland, too. So much of their dialogue played as nonsensical without any good context.

Exactly why I want that 2.5 hour cut. I still haven't seen the movie. But I've heard that so much of the context and backstory was cut.

That would definitely improve Joey's climax.

Do we know when the Castle Rock show is starting?

Huh, I wonder how they're going to make an interesting film out of The Long Walk? While one of my very favorite King stories, that's a tough one to put on screen. The entire story is literally a bunch of guys walking and talking.

I want to make this movie so badly. They better not fuck it up.

Looks like Amazon is moving forward with The Dark Tower series. Which is awesome. Rumor has it, it'll be a "reboot" and not take the movie into account BUT Idris Elba will still play Roland. And if that's true, I might die. :heartbeat:

There's no way we'll be so lucky.

Also, trag, don't you love Linklater's "Before" movies? Isn't the second one literally just two people walking and talking?

Ugh, you know they're going to add a demon or something...

Did anyone see the Gerald's Game movie? Was that one any good? Because the source material is almost as tough as The Long Walk (and not nearly as good).

I've always wanted to see Gerry
And yeah, great call on Before Sunset. They just might pull this off.

I didn't watch it because I wanted to read it first. My wife really loves the book. She was terrified by it. But I have heard really good things about the movie.

Yeah, i guess The Long Walk has a lot of flashbacks, and also some sexual fantasies, that could make for interesting cuts from all the walking. But this will ultimately be a dialogue-driven film.

God forbid Hollywood hires a fucking, you know, writer.

For as bad as King's dialogue typically is, it's really good in this one; the banter between the boys is what brings them to life. I hope they keep the core of it.

I think King gets a mostly bad rap for his dialogue.

That would be great. I'm curious how often this has ever happened before. A reboot that restrain s the star but ignores the earlier work?

No idea. But this as a built-in reset button of sorts. Since the film is technically a sequel, the series could be a straight adaption of the source material without having to acknowledge the movie at all.
