Vulture is covering SNL all week. Here's some of the better pieces thus far:

The article is worth reading, but I'd like to compare their ranking with my own.

Vulture's ranking:
1975-1980
2000-2006
1990-1995
2006-2013
1985-1990 (this is absurd)
1995-2000
1984-1985
2013-present
1980-1984

My ranking:
1990-1995
2006-2013
1995-2000
2000-2006
1975-1980
1984-1985
1980-1984
2013-present
1985-1990

Heck yeah! By a fair margin. But it's been a long time since I've watched those eps, so I'm open to reevaluating. What stood out to you as particularly strong from that era?

Dennis Miller

Dana Carvey
Jon Lovitz
Nora Dunn
Jan Hooks

I'll maybe give you '85, which is a HUGE transition year with Lorne coming back and a whole new cast, but from 86-90, the show really went back to being what it was in those first years. This is the era that I started tuning in week after week. Other than the original 5 Lorne years, this is by far my favorite period. Sure, some of my fondness may be clouded by nostalgia, but if you go back and watch, I'll think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I really wish they'd start releasing subsequent seasons on DVD. There's no way I wouldn't get them.

I got it when it first came out, and eventually deleted it. I imagine it's been updated a lot since then. What are your favorite features?

Honestly, I've not explored it that much. My biggest disappointment is that it doesn't have the Bill Murray Hercules sketch from the mid-80s. That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.

SNL always gets a bad rep for the sound quality they provide their bands, but I am generally happy with it.

ha, she wishes. She has, like, 1/100th of the poise and articulation. But yes, her hair and attire recently do recall Mid-80s - mid 90's David Bowie.

Finally got around to the last episode. The wrestling promo skit was hilarious, and the child-molesting robot was probably one of the greatest things I've ever seen on SNL. Holy shit that was ballsy.

Both Katy Perry performances were laughably awful garbage. What an embarrassment. It was like watching Gwenyth Paltrow in a rap video.
