Also, what the fuck was up with the Kern skit? Did they fuck up? Did something go wrong? Steve's character says, "I've got a plan." Presumably to help he Kern... but then.... ???

Did someone drop a line? Something weird happened. The ending didn't make any sense.

I feel like that one and the one at the beginning where Steve played an idiot dad were really funny on paper but not terribly well executed.

I get the sense that Steve Carrel is actually kind of a dick in real life? I find it surprising that he actually managed to pull off some great comedic roles.

I find something about Carrell very off-putting. I can’t put my finger on it. He seems...stuck up? Or something? I don’t know.

That's weird. I've never gotten that impression.

Maybe Carrell's more of an introvert in person than when on stage?
Either way he's still my all time favorite Daily Show correspondent.

Carrell has never struck me as someone who relates to the every man. He seems like he laughs at the general public.

Well he's certainly no Larry the Cable Guy if that's what you're after.

everyone who worked with Carrell on The Office has said variations on " nicest guy in show business."

I just see a guy who is insanely talented, very humble, and has mastered the social behaviors necessary to carry both qualities at the same time. I think he's a real class act, in a way that not many modern day entertainers seem to be.

Claire Foy's episode was okay. She was fine but didn't have much to do despite being in most of the sketches. The WWI one was my favorite; I vaguely remember Mike Myers doing a similar one way back when. Second Christmas was the best of the pre-taped pieces. The Charlie and Chocolate Factory sketch went into a direction I didn't expect, a one joke bit that lasted just long enough to get a few laughs and before McKinnon & Davidson were able to completely hide their breaks. Baldwin was back as Trump; honestly I didn't I miss him. Weekend Update underwhelmed again, Leslie Jones' roll up was the best and got one of the biggest laughs of the night from Che's butting in, one line in particular might have been ad libbed considering Jost's honest reaction.
Jason Momoa hosts next week with Mumford & Sons before heading into the Christmas episode with Matt Damon and the midseason holiday break.

i thought it was a horrible episode. Claire Foy seems lovely though, I'd never seen her before (i don't think). This Cut For Time sketch is better than anything that aired:

I really do not like Foy. I don’t understand why she’s a thing.

We'll agree to disagree on the cut sketch.
I'm usually pretty generous with my SNL review, a couple good sketches is my barometer for an okay show. Weekend Update is it's own thing though. I don't remember a really strong Update this season though, even though I like Jost & Che.
I usually don't expect too much from most of the hosts either so a pleasant surprise will always elevate an episode or one of the old pros we all know.
Nice to Cecily Strong getting more screen time this season. The women are largely carrying the show right, there's no real lead male player at the moment.

Between an early flight in the morning and it being nasty and cold out I decided to stay in this evening and am watching SNL live for the first time in forever. DeNiro again reprised his Mueller role; as respected of an actor as he is DeNiro is a terrible sketch player and cue card reader. I had low expectations of Jason Momoa but he was truly excited and enthusiastic in his monologue and was good in his first sketch, an elf on the shelf scenario. A Game of Thrones sketch was next and not a surprise. A good idea but failed in execution. He hasn't done anything since. Update is next, don't know how long I will stay with it after that since the back is typically even more hit or miss than usual
