Wicked Tuna. I fucking love this show.
My hometown, but I've never watched the show. Does it ever talk about opiate addiction?
Not that I've seen.
That's a shame. It's a big part of the culture.
I get that enough at work. Don't need it in my entertainment.
Fair enough. But I just left Gloucester this morning, and there are an awful lot of opiate addicts in the fishing community -- I bet regular portrayal on TV would put some heat on the city to take more action.

PS - What's your work? Apologies if you've told me and I've forgotten.
I work in a doctor's office as a radiographer. I do much more nurse stuff than X-rays, tho. We're a satellite office for a practice that used to be legally classified as a pain clinic even tho we do internal medicine as well. The state requires any practice that dispenses scheduled meds to more than 50% of total patient count to register as a pain clinic. We're not one anymore, but we still dole out A LOT of opioids and benzodiazepines.

Got it. I'm sure it's similar with your patients as it is with the fishing community: on-the-job injury, they get a prescription, it runs out, but now they've developed a serious habit.

Actually, a lot of them are on disability for back pain. ( which is amazingly simple to do) And the ones that aren't just float from clinic to clinic and go thru all the X-rays and MRIs over and over again playing the game and getting the pain pills.
The ironic thing is all of them talk down on "druggies" and pot smokers and such. They can't see the forest for the trees. One of these days I'm gonna lose it and set the truth on one of them.

Finished 13 reasons why. I liked it I guess. It could have as easily been 7 reasons why. The acting was good overall but the premise sorta gets tired mid way through. It picks up again in the last third.
Weirdly I felt it did more to stigmatise mental health than anything. I think it got its wires crossed in its intention. But worth a look overall if you're looking for something to get into.

Tina Fey
Yeah, she's one of the creators of the show. But she's only credited, I think, with writing like 7 of the 39 episodes. Like most shows, it has a writing team.
