The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
Berman is a notorious sexist. He's almost single-handedly responsible for driving off Terry Farrell from DS9. He'd repeatedly tell her that her breasts weren't big enough for TV, etc. He's a monster.

How is that even a statement. She's basically the reason I watched the show.

Did not know this. I love Lucy
Lucille Ball saved Star Trek not once, but twice. She owned the production company Desilu Productions which was then bought by CBS.
She approved the production and development of the first Star Trek pilot, even though her board of directors rejected it. After it got very negative reviews, she helped finance the second pilot with her own money!
One of the biggest constraints they had early in the show, and one of the reasons they struggled in the first two seasons, was that Roddenberry in his old age had decided that interpersonal conflict wouldn’t exist by this point in the future. He didn’t want them to fight with each other...ever. They cut him out of the movies after the first one because every note he sent was “they shouldn’t be arguing etc.” They couldn’t cut him out of the tv show.
He wanted Wesley crusher to exist because in his mind, Wesley was him as a young man. Smart, a little bit socially alone, but getting to live young Gene’s fantasy of being in space. Wesley is HIS creation, his casting choice, his idealized creation of himself, and he wanted the captain to be played by...Yaphet Kotto
I think it’s far more likely that Picard was supposed to leave or die after the first couple of seasons, and Riker would take over the ship. He more fits the traditional Star Trek captain mold, and all the way back when phase 2 was in development they planned on doing exactly that. Kirk would run the ship for a while, Will Drecker would be his second in command, and then Kirk would leave and become an admiral who guest stars from time to time.
