Starting the new season now. The first four of the original were huge favorites of mine.

Nice atmospheric start. Dexter was always great at that.

The new season isn't good, but it's fun. I think the Deb stuff sucks ass but the Harrison plot has been fun. Nowhere near the heights of the first three seasons but also not as bad as the atrocious Colin Hanks/Doomsday Killer one.

The fourth season of the original, may have been the best one.

well, I goddamned loved this. There was a bigger emotional component to the conclusion that i felt was a great way to send this show off once again. Sad to see it go though!

Love this, from Hall:

Spoiler: show
When the youth sees Logan’s blood on his father, Dexter realizes he is beyond redemption.

“Out of the desire not to get caught, Dexter kills someone that in no way fits the code,” Hall said. “And it’s someone that his son, who he loves above all others, revered. In that moment, Dexter apologizes to another human being for all he’s done to that person, and experiences a sense of connection to a person he’s never experienced before. It’s like, ‘I’m having a full experience of being a human being now, and could you please kill me because it’s unbearable.’”

Sorry but I think that sucked even worse than the original ending.

I think it was a great conclusion for this season, but maybe not the entire series? Would’ve been better if the lights went out with Dexter as the show was always about his inner monologue.

Binged this over the last few days. Surprisingly good and it fits right alongside the stronger seasons of the show. Most surprising to me is it didn’t feel like a half-assed one-off limited series but instead a full-fledged, fully realized season of Dexter (for better or worse).

I loved what they did with Deb and thought the final moments of the finale worked really well. Perhaps the pacing was a little too quick as it wrapped up. The final scene could’ve benefitted from a slightly longer burn but that may just be my desire for more Dexter talking.

Overall, a solid way to end the series for good. If we see a Dexter, Jr. spin-off in a few years, something will have gone terribly wrong. As the credits rolled, I was dreading a stinger with Harrison donning an apron in LA five years later saying, “Tonight’s the night.”

Oh, and what was the point of that oil tycoon subplot? Did something get cut?

Don’t do it, Showtime — let Dexter die!

Probably a red herring as to who the big bad would end up being?

Maybe. I felt like it was pretty clear early on that Clancy Brown was the baddie, though.

Initially, I thought the tycoon was Matt’s father because the town talks about how much money his family had invested there.

I just love how Dexter finally found something in his life that caused him to fuck up. To break the code. I think that was great. Then ultimately, in a fucked up way, sacrificing himself for his song.

I mean, Dexter had previously conveniently killed people to protect himself. I can’t recall if anyone was as innocent as Harrison’s coach was

Yea but this kill was very sloppy and very emotionally motivated. Different than others. He unraveled by finally feeling - even if fleeting - moments of human emotion.
