Go to 3:50 for Patrick Fabian's uncanny Jonathan Banks impression

I know Nacho was only mentioned on BB, but he wasn’t actually dead was he?

This show never plays with its chronology just because, it's always meant to illuminate or recontextualize something we're about to see or have seen before. This flash forward to start the episode was meant to contrast with the very end of the episode, as well as draw a bunch of thematic and plot parallels not just with this episode but with what we've seen in the show so far. I really loved that it seemed to be shot Breaking Bad style -- it felt like Breaking Bad, texturally, and if I didn't know any better I'd say it might have even been shot on film. Nice little touch by the production team.

It was shot on film!

That was great. They've really knocked it out of the park the last couple episodes. Feels like the listlessness of the start of the season is paying off.

A few stray observations about the episode, spoilered just in case somebody hasn't seen it yet (don't whine, Matt)

Spoiler: show
- Bob Odenkirk has done an incredible job this season, and this last episode in particular. His acting during the scene when Kim tells him about Schweikart's offer was masterful, and the way the filmmakers conveyed his desperate need to suppress was really powerful and effective.
- Like I said before, this show never plays around with its chronology just because: that opening scene with Kim fangirling over Chuck's win, thus motivating Jimmy to start studying up, made this conversation that much more tragic.
- Kim on her PD work: "I like it. And I'm good at it." Who does that remind you of?
- Those upside down shots in the piñata place were disorienting, nightmarish, and stunning. Hats off to whoever thought of doing it that way. Came out great.
- Cool sound design, too. Never has piñata-smashing sounded so brutal.
- Gus's monologue was pretty incredible, and gave us a real glimpse at the extent of his psychopathy.
- Jimmy and Howard's confrontation was awesome. Really curious if that is going to come back and bite Jimmy in the ass somehow.
- Also curious if Howard's sad state will somehow result in HHM losing the Sandpiper case, which would mean Jimmy's push to settle the lawsuit earlier was correct. This would mean that Jimmy permanently damaged his reputation with his client base for nothing.
- Speaking of: how sad was it to see Jimmy so heartbroken over that little old lady's death? Sad to see her go, too, I really liked her. "Moxy is in such short supply these days!"
- I think this may have been the first episode of the season without Nacho, and as much as I like him, the show is so much more vibrant and alive when it doesn't dwell on his side of the story. The cartel stuff has generally been very boring this season.
- Really liked the brief montage of Jimmy bringing the cell phones into his office, set to a fun mambo. Reminded me of season 2.
- Mrs. Nguyen is such a bitch. Stop giving Jimmy a hard time!
- Kai is going to end up in a shallow grave soon.

Wow, that opening sequence may be my favorite montage this show's ever done.

I'm not done with the episode yet, but... that was lovely

Beautiful episode, if a bit hard to watch at times

Feels like the start of a whole new season, in a way
