Based on the reaction to the ‘40s thread, I have a feeling this might not get much of a response. Still, the thread must happen. The ‘30s were a fascinating time for film.

1. Port of Shadows
2. Gone with the Wind
3. The Edge of the World
4. Grand Illusion
5. King Kong
6. Gunga Din
7. Le jour se leve
8. Grand Hotel
9. Scarface
10. The Adventures of Robin Hood

Honorable Mentions: Freaks, Transatlantic Tunnel, The Most Dangerous Game, Bride of Frankenstein

I really haven't seen many films from the 30s. I'm sure I haven't seen 10, so I'll just do a top 5. Sorry thread integrity.

1. The Wizard of Oz
2. Gone With the Wind
3. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
4. King Kong
5. Bringing Up Baby

Duck Soup (This is number 1 for me, all others no ranking)
Bride of Frankenstein
Frankenstein
Wizard of Oz
You Can't Take it With You
A Night at the Opera
The Island of Lost Souls
The Big Trail
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Honorable mention: Snow White, Robin Hood, The Mummy, The Thin Man, All Quiet on the Western Front.

There were some really great movies from this decade. Man I love old films.

Oh man. Love them. And I'm a big WWII film freak. May actually start a thread for that sub-genre. I know that is a little more recent, but still older.

it is decent. It was my Grandpa's favorite (he was there) so it is sentimental because I always used to watch it with him.

Also, the testament of Dr. Mabuse is really good.

I think you need to make this War Movies thread.

I will. I'll put a top ten together but should it be war movies in general or just WWII era?

I would think War Movies in general? Or maybe just old war movies? I'm sure most will be WWII anyway.

I've never understood the love for Island of Lost Souls. I've always thought it was a really weak adaptation. The weakest of all the film adaptations so far, honestly.
