Which book ended with the big space battle around the rogue planet populated by the Martian defectors with the protomolocule enhanced ships. It wouldn't take much tweaking to end it there.
When's the next season? January? Last book's due out in December.

Tiamat's Wrath -- the most recent and penultimate novel.
I think Leviathan Falls comes out in November. I believe they started filming the last season - I would guess they'll cross-promote with the release of LF so December would be a good guess for the final season.
I'm still not clear if they intend to wrap up the series or just stick to the same narrative path they've been on (i.e. focus season 6 on a single book) and hope for another outlet to pick it up to truly finish the story. Seems like every interview I've seen with the showrunners had a bit of hedging about their intentions for this coming season.

There's a big time jump after Nemesis Games. Aren't they all old at the start of the next book? Maybe they do this season, then someone picks it up 20 years from now when the actors are old.

You may be right but Marcos doesn't do much for me as the ultimate big bad of the TV series. Too much of a whiny brat. That'd be an unsatisfying ending if that's what they choose to do with the series.
I'm still scratching my head as to why they're ending the series on Amazon. I would love to see Bezos' metrics that justify ending now versus finishing it out properly. Perhaps they're throwing all available cash into the LOTR series.

This is from an EW article in December, so who knows? I would love their to be more!
Quote:
Cast member Dominique Tipper, who plays Belter Naomi Nagata on the show slyly hinted at the possibility of a longer show life on another outlet when she joined castmates Steven Strait and Wes Chatham on EW Live (SiriusXM, channel 109). “Look, this is the end of the TV show on Amazon,” said Tipper. “So, we'll just have to see what happens.”
EW also spoke with showrunner Naren Shankar, and asked the executive producer whether there could be more life for The Expanse in the form of another channel or streaming outlet, much in the same way the show was rescued by Amazon after Syfy moved on from the project. “You know, honestly, that would be more of a question for our studio, for Alcon, says Shankar. “They control the property, but what I will say is that there's definitely more to tell and I'm sure Ty and Daniel would say exactly the same thing. But yeah, that's probably about as much as I can say at this point.”

I'm in bed with a broken foot and crushed Book #4 in less than 3 days. 20% into book #5--I will probably finish the series before they take this boot off.
